Calvin Harper is an American Indian from the Mi’kmaq Tribe of the Algonquin Nation. The first person in his family to attend and complete college, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Brigham Young University. He also earned a Juris Doctorate from Columbia University School of Law. One of his beliefs is that education is an essential step in making a difference. To make a difference, helping individuals and even nations to reach their highest potential is where we begin.

Mr. Harper was the first official employee of the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.

Mr. Harper has worked as an attorney, university professor, publisher, consultant, commentator, podcaster, employment coach, author, editor, and entrepreneur. Additionally, he is currently a contributing author and editor for Certification Magazine. He frequently states that he is well acquainted with disappointment and hardship since he is a Boston Red Sox fan.

When asked to describe his interests and hobbies, he states: “I have a passion for America, its origins, and its singular place in the world. I love to read and write, and I have a special affinity for history, politics, and government.”  

Jacob (Brother) Dalton is a Liahona graduate of 2010. He holds a Teaching Degree and licensure in Social Science from Brigham Young University. In between Liahona and BYU, Brother Dalton served a mission in Cuernavaca, Mexico. He loves to study history, politics, and any other social subjects you can think of, but above all he is passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Brother Dalton emphasizes engaged learning while helping his students develop critical thinking skills from an LDS perspective.

Sister Rowley received an English Education with Reading Endorsement from BYU. Deborah Rowley taught public school for four years before leaving to raise and occasionally home school her own five children. She has taught at Liahona since 2008.  She loves to teach, read, and write, and is the author of seven books including; White Shirts, White Dresses, and Before They Turn Twelve – Teaching Our Children to Live the Lord’s Standards. In 2013 she accepted the opportunity to create Liahona’s elementary distance education program.  It has been a huge success.  Parents and students tell us she is an exceptionally gifted teacher and even from a distance, every student feels like her favorite student.
