Service Trip/Super Trips

We are very excited about Liahona’s 2010 East Coast Super Trip this year. Our American History trip allows students the opportunity to experience the colonial time period up close. As we visit each monument and museum we learn of the people who lived and sacrificed at the time of the founding of our country in a personal way.

Here is our schedule:

Saturday, June 12:

Everyone will fly into Dulles airport just outside of Washington DC. We will have an opening meeting, go over the rules and introduce everyone. For those driving and meeting us there, we will be staying at the Hampton Inn in Reston/Herndon.

Sunday, June 13:

We will go to Sacrament meeting and then tour George Washington's home at Mount Vernon. A guided tour of the house, a self-guided tour of the grounds and Washington's tomb, and a boat tour on the Potomac are included.

Monday, June 14 and Tuesday, June 15:

We will spend two full days touring Washington DC. Everyone will have a tourmobile ticket so you can get off and on at every stop you wish to visit. We are working on having a group tour of the White House and Capitol. Then we will break into groups to see the Holocaust museum, the Smithsonians, the memorials such as the Viet Nam and Lincoln, and as many of the other sites we can cram into the two days.

Wednesday, June 16:

The group will travel about 1-1/2 hours to visit Gettysburg. Professional battleground guides will join us on the bus as we tour the battle field and learn about the carnage and heartbreak at Gettysburg. Gettysburg also has an adorable historic downtown for great Civil War period shopping.

Thursday, June 17:

We will travel south to visit Jamestown and Yorktown. At Jamestown we get to see James Fort and the Indian village with its Living History re-enactors as we explore the colonization of America and the sacrifices they made. Lunch will be provided. Then we will move on to Yorktown with its Colonial American Army encampment. General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington at Yorktown and we will all enlist in the Colonial army for a couple of hours. Fortunately we get to leave and spend the night in comfort at The Woodlands in Williamsburg.

Friday, June 18:

Tour guides will take us through old town Williamsburg. You might meet Benjamin Franklin, listen in on a heated discussion about America declaring war on England and learn lots about Colonial America. That night we travel back to Washington DC to The Courtyard at Reston/Herndon and have a final meeting.

Saturday, June 19:

Everyone flies home in time for Father's Day :)

The cost for this trip includes:

Air conditioned, charter coach buses

Entrance fees into the above sites

Tourmobile ticket

5 nights at the Hampton Inn in Reston/Herndon

1 night at The Lodges at Williamsburg

1 night at the Courtyard Reston/Herndon

1 lunch, 6 breakfasts and 6 full days of learning, fun and friends.

Costs are determined by how many people you want to share a room with:

4 people to a room - $650 each

3 people to a room - $725 each

2 people to a room - $865 each

We fill these trips one 55 passenger bus at a time, so reservations are confirmed by first come, first served. If we have filled one or two buses but only have a few passengers for the next bus, we have to deny confirmation to those who registered last. The absolute deadline to register is April 15, but we recommend you register as soon as possible since these trips tend to fill quickly.

The Super Trip Registration form will be available shortly.

We look forward to you joining us!

An email will be sent to all Liahona families as soon as online registration is available.
