The English curriculum will revolve around a young writer’s workshop. Students will begin the day with a 10 min lesson about a writing topic. Topics will include: grammar, punctuation, and writing techniques. Then students will spend an additional 20 minutes working on their own writing. They will follow all the steps of the writing process including brainstorming, rough draft, conferencing, revision, editing and publishing. A second 10 min video segment will include students (both academy and distance learners) sharing their writing and receiving feedback. The publishing phase will include making the completed book available online for the rest of the class. Spelling words will be pulled from misspelled words in the student’s own writing. Independent reading and book reports will round out the English curriculum.
